- ➤ Houston County Habitat for Humanity ReStore is asking the community for help finding its friendly store cat Alpine, missing since Wednesday, Jan. 7. The nearsighted, black-and-white cat (missing his left eye) usually greets shoppers and may have slipped into a vehicle. The Houston Home Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Bibb County School District has paused hiring and non-essential spending as staff salary costs were underestimated by $5.5M, and a budget amendment set for Jan. 15 will address adjustments with expected returns of $8,818,021. The district aims to ensure more accurate financial planning in future budgets. WGXA
- ➤ Houston County Sheriff’s office will launch the CHAMPS program next week at Huntington Middle and Northside Middle—reaching nearly 500 sixth graders with lessons on drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Each school’s resource officer will teach the trial as the program plans countywide expansion this fall. 13WMAZ

- ➤ Warner Robins has begun the design phase of its Vietnam Veterans Memorial as city leaders and architects met this week to plan how veterans will share their input. Officials plan to bid on construction in the fall (the project may take about a year to complete). 13WMAZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ L.H. Williams Elementary opened a new health center on Friday—providing on-campus medical and behavioral care for students, staff and families. The center will expand its services to include community members next month. 41NBC
