CRIME NEWS

  • Centerville Police Department is searching for a suspect who stole lottery tickets from a Circle K on Watson Blvd at 7:45 a.m. on March 23 — surveillance video shows he wore a gray hoodie and drove off in a black four-door vehicle while authorities ask the public for tips.  WGXA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Interviews (with survivors) and (witnesses) recall the EF-4 tornado that struck Warner Robins in April 1953. Their accounts detail the storm’s severe damage and long-lasting impact on the community.  13WMAZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Howard High School student was accepted to 75 colleges and universities and now must decide which school is the best fit. The many offers create a challenging college decision process for the student.  WPGA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Warner Robins mother collected 28,000 signatures on a petition calling for hands-on autism training for law enforcement after a 2022 traffic stop involving her nonverbal son. She hopes her Project BAAM—A Better Approach to Autism and Mental Health—will lead local agencies like the Houston County Sheriff's Office and Warner Robins Police Department to adopt new training and eventually pass statewide legislation.  13WMAZ
  • Warner Robins mayoral candidate Fabian Velazquez says rising crime, poor school conditions, and high housing costs have shown the city needs a new plan. He is running a self-funded campaign (he believes 5.4 million spent on downtown projects could be better used to improve neighborhoods) that will focus on a complete change for the city.  WGXA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Atrium Health Navicent is urging community members to know their health numbers with two free screenings offered today from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Festival Park in Fort Valley—another screening will be held on May 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Walter B. Williams Park in Milledgeville.  WGXA
