COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Centerville Firefighters are raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by collecting donations at the corner of Margie Drive and Gunn Road on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. The money will help buy equipment for children (and fund a summer camp) and many kids call the firefighters heroes.  WGXA
  • Tuesday, the city of Warner held a groundbreaking ceremony on Vicki Lynn Drive for the Terraces at Oscar Thomie—a $23-million project to build 90 mixed-income rental apartments. Africa Porter of the Warner Robins Housing Authority said the project will offer 81 units for households with half the area median income and nine units with no income restrictions.  WGXA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Esplanade Drive and Westwood Drive intersection in Warner Robins is closed today at 8:00 a.m. for stormwater pipe replacement and will remain closed until 3:30 p.m. on April 18 (the project aims to improve drainage). Drivers are advised to follow detour signs.  WGXA
  • The fentanyl eradication act passed the General Assembly on March 28 and went to Governor Kemp on April 7; the law lowers trafficking thresholds so that anyone caught with more than four grams of fentanyl faces a ten-year prison term and a $75,000 fine. Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton said the law will help stop dangerous drug trafficking and noted his office will host an opioid awareness assembly on May 14 at Southside Baptist Church—his team works with local schools and police to teach the public about fentanyl risks.  The Houston Home Journal
  • Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton donated a 2020 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle with 97,000 miles to the Pulaski County sheriff's office after the Houston County Commission approved the transfer due to a need for newer vehicles. Moulton said he continued the legacy of the late Sheriff Cullen Talton by aiding neighboring agencies — and the vehicle is now re-striped and active in service.  WGXA
