COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, April 26th, local firefighters competed in the fourth annual Central Georgia Firefighters Combat Challenge at the Warner Robins Fire Department Training Center to raise funds for first responders facing high medical bills — two participants, one local and one from Columbus, will have their expenses assisted. Seventy-nine competitors from across the state took part, with the Warner Robins team winning in 1 minute and 39 seconds.  The Houston Home Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out on Sunday at Stonehenge Apartments in Warner Robins, damaging eight units and displacing several families with no reported injuries. The Warner Robins Fire Department and State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause—while the Red Cross provides emergency support like comfort kits and hotel stays.  13WMAZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Honeybee Dragon—a new business using 100% natural soy wax and sulfate-free oils—offers candles and wax melts inspired by popular books for local readers in Warner Robins. Owner Ashley Bird, a military spouse who returned from Utah, started the business last September and now sells her products online and at local vendor events.  The Houston Home Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Houston County School District held a groundbreaking ceremony for Veterans Middle School on April 25 in Kathleen—school district staff and community leaders marked the site as the future location for a 160,000-square-foot facility with 60 classrooms, athletic fields and agricultural program facilities that will open by Fall 2027.  The Houston Home Journal
  • Gov. Kemp signed two education bills on Monday that ease school psychologist licensing by establishing an interstate compact and reform K-3 reading instruction by banning the three-cueing method and setting up a statewide literacy coach system — the state budget allocated $18 million for coach training.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Houston County Health Department captured a raccoon with confirmed rabies on Robins Air Force Base after an employee came in contact with the animal. The department is following up with that employee for treatment and urging pet owners to vaccinate their pets regularly — a measure to prevent rabies spread.  The Houston Home Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mercer University cheerleaders and their parents were shocked when the school announced it was seeking a new coach after the team earned national recognition. The coach’s wife delivered the news at a recent practice in Warner Robins—raising concerns about the program’s future and its practice facility.  WGXA
