- ➤ Fincher’s BBQ opened its new location at 102 S Armed Forces Blvd on May 15; locals gathered to enjoy the famous barbecue near the Air Force base – the restaurant, with a 91-year family legacy since 1935, now replaces the old site on North Davis Drive. WGXA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ After a Canvas hack on April 29 affected Houston County schools, a parent questioned student data protection at a school board meeting in Perry. The board approved an FY27 budget with a 2% cost-of-living increase + $1,000 supplement, and next meeting is set for Tuesday, June 2 at 1 p.m. The Houston Home Journal
- ➤ Langston Road Primary in Perry received the state's Military Flagship Award on Wednesday for its support of military families. The school, which serves about 100 students from military backgrounds, uses weekly counseling and community events to build a strong network. 13WMAZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ From May 11 to May 14, the city sprayed nine zones using Southland Organics Defender—an organic product with essential oils that avoids harsh chemicals—to control mosquitoes while protecting pollinators and keeping playtime safe, city Administrator James Drinkard said. The Houston Home Journal
