A Houston County resident, Robin Wood, urged local leaders at a recent county commission meeting to address the growing animal overpopulation problem and provide updates on plans for a new shelter funded by SPLOST+rescue groups are working to care for stray and abandoned animals.

County officials said the City of Warner Robins has put the design for the animal facility out for bid while acknowledging the issue remains a concern, especially after a recent animal cruelty incident in Kathleen.

Three Middle Georgia residents from Oglethorpe and Butler were sentenced for bank fraud and identity theft as part of a scheme led by Jalen Tylee Hill of Americus—Hill received an 81-month federal prison term while the others got supervised release and restitution orders after an investigation began in December 2021.

Renaldo Smith, a Warner Robins man, received a 60-year state prison sentence for firing on officers during a January 31 standoff at 209 Somerset Drive—he had already been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison.

Renaldo Rashad Smith, 34, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for 12 counts of aggravated assault after a six-hour standoff in January 2023 on Somerset Drive — he fired at officers during an arrest attempt and was shot in the arm.

Warner Robins is offering a free summer technology camp and Saturday Free Play drop-in event for children ages 6—16 as part of the 2025 iCan Summer Camp Series in partnership with Ed Farm to teach coding, robotics, and digital art.

Families can join the drop-in event at InnoLab in the North Houston Sports Complex on North Houston Road from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and registration for the weekly camps is now open.

At a recent meeting, the Houston County Board of Commissioners welcomed Staff Sergeant Ashli Miles and Airman First Class Andrew Perez from Robins Air Force Base as they shared their experiences and plans while local officials listened.

Today at Piedmont Macon, survivors celebrated National Cancer Survivors Month with live music, a drum circle, and the attaching of purple ribbons to a Tree of Hope—community members and staff danced and shared stories during the event.
