CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sgt. Greg Thomas from Macon Regional Crimestoppers said the Houston County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Gerald Casey for failing to register as a sex offender—anyone with information is urged to call 1-877-682-7463 for an anonymous tip. 41NBC
- ➤ A Warner Robins man named James Kelly pleaded guilty to trafficking fentanyl, heroin, and other drugs after a 911 call for an overdose at a Perry motel in fall 2023 and received a 25-year sentence with 12 years to serve — his arrest is part of ongoing efforts to curb opioid-related deaths in Houston County. 13WMAZ
- ➤ A 64-year-old Reynolds man pleaded guilty to robbing a Dollar General in Perry at gunpoint after taking over $3,000 and was sentenced on July 7 to 16 years in prison with four years probation—officers linked him to the crime using surveillance video and recovered items from his home. WGXA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Central Georgia Technical College announced that 10 military spouses have graduated from the VECTR Center’s six-month IT and cybersecurity training program—designed to prepare them for jobs on base and in the civilian workforce. The center will hold an information session on grants at 6 p.m. on July 15. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Kaleb Brown, a 20-year-old IT student at Central Georgia Technical College, won first place in computer programming at the 2025 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta. He earned the national title by beating top students nationwide (showing strong technical skill) and he plans to work with companies on new AI cybersecurity tools (which he hopes will boost his career). 41NBC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney and family farmer Steven McNeel announced his run for Senate District 18, a seat held by John Kennedy who is running for lieutenant governor — his campaign will focus on pro-agriculture and pro-business policies in Middle Georgia. McNeel lives in Macon with his wife Mollie and their three children — and he said he will support low taxes, good education and law enforcement to help the region thrive. 41NBC
- ➤ The city of Warner Robins started a pet-friendly program in 2022 to help local businesses let customers bring pets inside when summer heat makes it risky to leave them in cars. Over 40 companies, such as Satterfield and Dempsey Jewelers, joined the effort and residents can check each store’s pet-friendly status online—Mayor LaRhonda Patrick said the move keeps pets safe and draws more customers. 41NBC
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Bud Dupree hosted his third annual football camp at Mercer where young athletes practiced NFL drills and felt the excitement of a game day setting that Dupree remembered from his own training—he used his platform to inspire local players as he prepares for his 11th season. 13WMAZ
