Native Plant Center is getting new owners as Steven and Stephanie Welch of Southern Accents Landscaping Supply + community supporters who will open a new nursery in early September in Warner Robins.
The center will keep its classes on native plants to help local gardeners.

The Houston County School District kicked off the 2026-27 school year Tuesday at Southside Baptist Church, adopting the 'Together We Will' theme to boost student success while naming Perry High art teacher Brianna Walker as Teacher of the Year (and announcing pay increases for educators); classes begin Aug. 4.

Certified Master Naturalist John Trussell (advocate for Oaky Woods) said no data centers are planned in Houston County, but a future facility could reduce bear habitat and strain local water resources; he urged careful planning to protect wildlife and outdoor recreation.

Warner Robins continues planning for a new regional animal shelter funded by SPLOST — city officials are selecting the best site and finalizing plans with no build date set.
The project will boost pet adoptions and complement the current shelter.
