GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Houston County Board of Education has proposed that property owners pay nearly 12% more in taxes because home values have increased while the rate stays at 11.719—this means homeowners will pay more despite the unchanged rate. The board will hold three public hearings—on Aug 11 at 6 p.m., on Aug 12 at 1 p.m. and on Aug 25 at 3 p.m.—at the Board of Education building in Perry to discuss the proposal. 13WMAZ
- ➤ A Warner Robins couple says bats forced them out of their public housing unit and they have been living in a hotel since early July with no set return date, as lingering bat odor still affects the apartment. The housing authority covers the hotel costs while it faces lawsuits over unsafe conditions in other units. 13WMAZ
