COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Carlos Stephens, a WGXA Sports Anchor, was honored over the weekend as one of nine men to receive the Man Up Service Award—presented by Bethel AME Church for his strong dedication to quality journalism and community service.  WGXA

CRIME NEWS

  • Warner Robins police say their new Real-Time Crime Center, which opened in June, helped support nearly 30 cases and lead to 16 arrests in just two months while using live video feeds and license plate readers to quickly track suspects - officers plan to expand operations to 24/7 as funding improves.  13WMAZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Georgia High School Association has required that student-athletes upload a new driver's license to verify address changes when transferring schools. The revision, which went into effect Aug 1, aims to curb frequent moves (allowing one bona fide change after initial eligibility) and ensure proper residency documentation.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In July, 23 chaplain candidates from around the world trained at Robins Air Force Base to offer spiritual care during crises — their simulation with fake gunfire, blood and chaos tested their emotional resilience — and they prepared to support military families in emergencies.  13WMAZ
  • A Georgia Senate committee will hold its first hearing on Aug. 18 at 8:00 a.m. to study the state's unregulated recovery housing industry—focusing on concerns that residents might be at risk due to unmonitored facilities. The bipartisan committee, chaired by Sen. Randy Robertson, must complete its review and file recommendations by Dec. 1.  13WMAZ
  • The Houston County Board of Commissioners proposed a tax millage rate of 8.45 mills for 2025 to fund expanded public safety—adding six new sheriff's deputies and nine new firefighters while keeping base taxes unchanged for homeowners with the floating homestead exemption. Public hearings on the proposal are scheduled for Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Annex Building and Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. at the Courthouse.  The Houston Home Journal
  • The North Houston Sports Complex is closed after an underground water pipe broke on Monday—Warner Robins Parks and Recreation is working to repair the break. Officials said the complex will reopen today once repairs are completed.  WGXA
  • Warner Robins Mayor LaRhonda Patrick—the city's first elected female mayor and first minority mayor—has announced her campaign for a second term to continue her leadership in the community.  WPGA
