CRIME NEWS

  • Houston County authorities reported a dozen recent scams where fraudsters impersonating funeral homes targeted grieving families by demanding credit card payments—Coroner James Williams urged victims to verify calls directly with funeral homes and to refrain from sharing personal information by phone.  The Houston Home Journal
  • The Perry Police arrested 10 juveniles for 27 auto break-in cases that happened from June 29 to Aug 7 in several neighborhoods (including Cameron Court Apartments and Perry Heights Apartments), where vehicles were damaged and stolen firearms were recovered.  The Houston Home Journal
  • On Aug. 21, Perry PD, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, and Warner Robins Police Department executed a search warrant on a Jackson Lane residence where officers found marijuana, synthetic marijuana, and oxycodone, leading to one arrest for possession—additional arrests are expected.  The Houston Home Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wartime Storytime is scheduled for Friday, Aug.29, at 1 p.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church to let local veterans share their wartime experiences—this monthly event will honor WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans and help students learn local history.  The Houston Home Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, Aug. 21, City Administrator James Drinkard reported that a sinkhole on Watson Blvd left about 700 customers without water last week. City workers restored water around 7 p.m.—they addressed challenges such as an adjacent gas main and concrete delivery delays.  The Houston Home Journal
