- ➤ Jamarion Parks, a Houston County High School graduate, found his passion for music through his school band and has joined the United States Marines for their elite music program. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and in jazz competitions — crediting his family’s military legacy for his drive — and he plans to serve 20 years while continuing to share his music at local churches. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers, educators, and superintendents met in Houston County on Tuesday to discuss the impact of state mandates on school operations. Houston County School Superintendent Richard Rogers, Representative Chris Erwin and Deputy Superintendent Chris Brown said laws such as the Multi-Tiered System of Supports restrict administrators' actions—limiting flexibility to manage classroom behavior. - ➤ Middle Georgia State University held a Town Hall meeting at its Warner Robins campus on Aug.26 where President Christopher Blake shared plans for growing the university and expanding its nursing and computer science programs while celebrating 10 years as a four year institution. He said the school—committed to low tuition and strong community ties—is working with local partners like Robins Air Force Base to build a future that supports student success.
