Anchor Glass left Warner Robins before today, laying off 150 workers at its manufacturing plant — the Houston Development Authority is offering help to affected employees.
🏛️ Government
Robins AFB held a ceremony Thursday at the Museum of Aviation to redesignate the 461st Air Control Wing as the 461st Wing, updating its mission for ground-based command and control, expeditionary communications and combat airfield operations.
The event marked a historic transition for the unit.
🏈 Sports
Westfield fell 21-13 to FPD on Friday night at George Anderson Memorial Stadium in Macon.
Coach Chad Campbell said four turnovers and inconsistent play hurt the team, which will host Southwest Georgia next.
In last week’s regional softball games, Northside earned an 11-6 win over Warner Robins in the Crosstown Showdown while Perry ended its 9-0 streak; Warner Robins’ Demonettes lost all four games before starting today's schedule with a home game against Ola.
Local teams have busy match-ups planned through Sept. 3.
Warner Robins football won (21 to 20) over Northeast with Antavious Hawkins scoring in the final 16 seconds.
Houston County, Perry, Veterans, Northside and Westfield also traded wins and losses in Week 2, with Houston County set to host Jones County.
