EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Houston County Board of Education honored 33 AP Scholars — along with other state and national winners from Perry High School and nearby schools — during its September meeting. Superintendent Dr. Richard Rogers noted that over 3,600 AP Exams were taken and praised community activities at the Lindsey Student Support Center and Butterfly Project performance.  The Houston Home Journal

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Warner Robins resident won $2.5 million on a lottery scratch-off ticket purchased at PK Food Mart on 99 Wellborn Road on Sept. 9—while a Perry resident won $1 million on a ticket bought at the Speedy convenience store on 101 Marshallville Road in Perry on Sept. 8.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Warner Robins are proposing new rules that require liquor stores to be at least 2,000 feet apart and meet criteria such as nearby 911 calls and traffic conditions—officials said the move addresses residents' safety concerns amid a recent surge in liquor retail locations. The ordinance will go to City Council on Oct. 15 for a vote.  13WMAZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The city of Warner Robins held a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept.10 for eight new townhomes on Airman Boulevard funded by a $1.5 million CHIP grant. Mayor LaRhonda Patrick said local workers will soon gain affordable home ownership as Deep South Construction builds the homes using local vendors—keeping dollars in the community and aiming for completion by the end of the year.  The Houston Home Journal

  • Houston County football will face a revitalized Tift County team as it tries to stay undefeated under coach Jeremy Edwards heading into region play — a win could tie the all-time series at seven and add a fourth win to their streak.  The Houston Home Journal
