COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Burger Week in Warner Robins will begin tomorrow and run until Sept. 28 — about 20 local businesses will offer creative burgers for $10 or less as participants can use a free passport to try different challenges and earn prizes.  The Houston Home Journal
  • Joshua Da'Mon Woodard, 19, a Fort Valley State University sophomore and captain of Kuntry Steppin' Trailriders, died on Saturday evening at Emory Health Care in Warner Robins after suffering from an undisclosed illness—no foul play is suspected. FVSU President Paul Jones said the school and community are mourning his loss, and a candlelighting ceremony will be held at Overtyme Bar and Grill in Macon on Friday at 7 p.m.  WGXA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two fishermen pulled a 12-foot alligator from the Ocmulgee River near Dykes Landing during hunting season, and officials say the animal weighed over 560 pounds—a rare catch in Middle Georgia.  WGXA

HEALTH NEWS

  • A suicide prevention panel—featuring Minister Quincy Hall, Dr. Tonja Simmons-Lee, Willis Raines, James Williams, and Allen Hammond—met on September 10 at Fellowship Bible Baptist Church in Warner Robins to share statistics, personal experiences, and warning signs of suicide for early intervention.  The Houston Home Journal
