BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wanna Tuft Studios opened earlier this month in Macon where visitors learn to tuft custom rugs and make drip bear paintings—classes run Friday to Sunday at 1080 Third Street, Suite 100. Warner Robins’ Tonia Williams and her best friend Parrisha Simmons also donate proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Georgia—prices start at $25 for a drip bear class.  The Houston Home Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards said he was appointed by PACGA to investigate former Washington County solicitor general Michael Howard—who resigned after facing allegations of improperly dismissing DUI cases—with no formal charges filed as the investigation continues.  WGXA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Houston County Board of Education said that some educators lost their jobs after making Facebook posts that celebrated the death of Charlie Kirk, and they noted that the action was taken because the posts hurt the community – following school policies and legal guidelines. The board stressed that all actions were handled fairly to protect students and community standards.  The Houston Home Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tropical Storm Humberto is intensifying over the Atlantic and Invest 94L near the Bahamas is expected to develop into a tropical storm, with both systems likely to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the Southeast coast and Middle Georgia early next week. Local residents are advised to monitor official updates—staying ready can help reduce risks from flooding and strong winds.  WGXA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Houston County NAACP will host a Mayoral and City Council Meet and Greet at First Baptist Church on Sept.29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.—candidates from Warner Robins, Perry and Centerville will attend in person or via video to share their plans, while special guest Mike Clark Jr will perform and food and drinks will be provided ahead of Election Day on Nov.4.  The Houston Home Journal
  • Warner Robins is moving forward with a downtown transformation nearly two years after starting Operation Reawaken— the city now owns over 70% of Commercial Circle including the key site at 1001 Young Ave., with the next demolition planned for early October and new design standards in the works.  13WMAZ
  • The Houston County Sheriff's Office will host its annual golf tournament Sept. 29-30 at Houston Lake Country Club to honor Sheriff Cullen Talton and raise funds for Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes. Sheriff Matt Moulton said he expects the event—started by Talton—to be the biggest yet and welcomes further donations.  The Houston Home Journal

  • Northside football is hosting Coffee this week in Daniel Williams’ first region contest at the MAC—The Eagles are looking for their first win of the season and have not scored a touchdown against Coffee since 2018.  The Houston Home Journal
