  • Kids at the Georgia National Fair are riding sheep as part of mutton busting—an event organized by Brice Wilson and the Wool Riders Association—where they wear helmets and try to stay mounted for six seconds; over 600 children participated last year.  WGXA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Houston County High School FFA students have been preparing for months to showcase their animals at the Georgia National Fair today at the Agricenter. Students work in the barn on weekdays and arrive before 8 a.m.—their consistent efforts teach responsibility and leadership.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Warner Robins city leaders announced that they will invest $3 million from the 2026 budget to upgrade local parks. The first project will be at Simpson and Peavy Park with new ball fields, upgraded restrooms, covered pavilions and modern sports lighting — work there is expected to start by summer.  13WMAZ
  • A Senate vote failed Friday to reopen the government—forcing closures at the local Museum of Aviation and unpaid work at Robins Air Force Base—and the shutdown has led to delays at the National Park Service with more disruptions possible until lawmakers agree on funding.  WPGA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Emory’s CEO discussed a $150 million recovery plan to upgrade Warner Robins and Perry hospitals—he said the plan will soon begin to restore essential health services.  13WMAZ

  • Bryson and Brayden Vincent are back in ACE’s football backfield, racking up 839 yards and 14 touchdowns so far this season.   • High school football is underway during Week 8 of Football Friday Night as teams in Central Georgia report scores such as Warner Robins Benedictine’s 19 to 0 win and Jasper County’s 21 to 18 edge over McNair.
