COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Warner Robins will open Haven Hope House on Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. on 79 Greene St.—the first full-service homeless shelter offering beds, meals, showers and caseworker support for up to 70 residents. It will start as a day shelter and evolve into a 90-day program and winter warming site with local partners ensuring a steady meat supply for its cafeteria.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews in Warner Robins will repair a leaking fire hydrant near McArthur Boulevard today at 9:00 a.m., which will turn off water for residents on nearby streets including Forest Park Drive, Arnold Boulevard, Thomas Boulevard, Diggs Boulevard, Vinson Drive, Wright Drive, Marshall Street and Tinker Boulevard.  WGXA
  • On Tuesday, Oct. 7, Houston County Commissioners proclaimed National 4-H Week, recognizing nearly 3,500 youth and honoring long-time employee Otha Sutton. Airport Authority Manager Jim Marquardt detailed the Perry-Houston County Airport’s growth, noting completed crack sealing of the second apron—construction of 14 new T-hangars is underway while the facility still relies on support from the city and county.  The Houston Home Journal
  • Warner Robins carried out its largest demolition on Commercial Circle on Oct.7 by removing the 17,823 square foot building that once housed the Fine Art Society’s art gallery. City officials said they will finish design standards by year-end and select a master developer next year to build a new two-story structure with retail on the first floor—office or residential space above.  The Houston Home Journal
