EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today at 7 p.m., Houston County Schools is hosting a Band Night at McConnell-Talbert Stadium in Warner Robins to showcase every middle and high school marching band in the district. The event features a mass rendition of the national anthem — group songs by middle school musicians and halftime shows by high school bands and is free for the public. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Russell Elementary was named one of Georgia’s newest Distinguished Schools for high scores on the Georgia Milestones tests and an $8 million renovation modernized its classrooms and hallways—an honor given to only the top 5% of Title I schools. Principal William Wilson said years of teamwork helped the school achieve this recognition. 13WMAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City leaders and community partners celebrated the opening of Haven Hope House on Oct. 17 at 79 Green Street with a ribbon cutting ceremony and facility tours—Mayor LaRhonda Patrick said the new shelter, which can house 50 people, will soon offer full support including counseling and job training under The Assembly. - ➤ Emory Healthcare’s staffing and equipment upgrades reduced ambulance response times in Houston County from 19 to 13 minutes (a nearly 30% drop) and improved emergency care delivery (local patients now get help faster). 13WMAZ
