CRIME NEWS

  • Two Central Georgia men—Tony Goodson and John Mazzola—got arrested in Macon on charges tied to a national sports betting scandal that involved mafia-run poker games and rigged machines, and their arrests come as lawmakers will debate legal sports betting when the legislative session begins on Jan. 12.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Human Services said SNAP benefits for more than 687,000 households will stop working on November 1 if the shutdown continues—families are urged to use remaining funds and check balances now.  41NBC
  • On Friday, AFGE Local 987 met in Warner Robins to hear from federal workers affected by the ongoing government shutdown and to call on lawmakers to act on job and paycheck concerns. Union treasurer Jeanette McElhaney said members are growing increasingly worried and advised affected workers to call AFGE Local 987 (478-922-5758) for support.  13WMAZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Paul Risper—son of the head coach—excels on the football field and in the classroom at Westside High School as he earned his associate degree. He is organizing a canned food drive to help those in need and credits his family for guiding his success.  WGXA
  • The Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame will induct full teams for the first time by honoring Warner Robins’ 1976 Screamin Demons alongside the 1971 Valdosta Wildcats. The Demons had an undefeated 13-0 season that included a 35-0 state championship win—marking a historic moment for the local team.  13WMAZ
  • The Warner Robins Demons hosted the Ware County Gators on Friday night at McConnell-Talbert Stadium in Week 11 of The End Zone — the Gators won against Perry last week while the Demons had allowed 30.3 points per game so far.  41NBC
  • Middle Georgia high school football scores from Week 11 have been released—results include match-ups with teams in Warner Robins and neighboring counties like Northeast, Dodge County, and Bleckley County. The scores capture key outcomes to help local fans keep track of the season.  41NBC
