  • Haven Hope House at 79 Green Street will open in November when The Assembly takes over the shelter to help local homeless people. Lead Pastor Darrell Yarbrough and shelter supervisor Brian Wise said the church’s work—built on years of outreach—will boost community support.  The Houston Home Journal

  • A Piedmont Macon staff member who is a breast cancer survivor urged women 40 and up to get mammograms early—insisting that early detection saves lives. The call comes as part of efforts to encourage timely screening and treatment.  WPGA

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a weather delay, the Elite Eight tournament resumed in Columbus at South Commons Complex with Houston County and Veterans competing. Houston County’s Lady Bears lost 8—3 to Jackson County and will play the loser of South Effingham and Lassiter today at 9 a.m., while Veterans won 6—4 over Loganville in their opening game.  The Houston Home Journal
