COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Food drives are being held across Middle Georgia as the government shutdown leaves many residents without enough food — local community groups are stepping in to distribute donations.  WPGA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pantries in Central Georgia are facing sharp cuts in USDA supplies due to government funding issues and a shutdown that delays SNAP benefits—The Well in Centerville now gets less than 5% of its usual items and its families could nearly double next month—while Free Point Church in Perry scrambles to secure enough food.  13WMAZ
  • Warner Robins Council approved JMA Architecture to design the new Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The memorial is set for construction next year—marking a significant effort to honor local veterans.  13WMAZ
  • The city of Warner Robins launched an online resource hub today for residents affected by the federal government shutdown—local government workers without pay and those who lost SNAP benefits can find updated food bank, financial, and support information. The city is also coordinating donations at fire stations from 8 AM to 7 PM Monday through Friday.  WGXA
  • A Perry church handed out Furlough Blessing Bags—food packages with non-perishable items—to help furloughed Robins AFB workers and local families hurt by the government shutdown that began Oct. 1 and left over 22,000 base employees and contractors with missed income and SNAP benefits.  13WMAZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Houston County lost 31-7 to Thomas County Central on Oct 24 but then beat Lee County to finish 9-1 and earn a home playoff game at Freedom Field since 2015. Head coach Jeremy Edwards said the loss did not define the season and praised the team's quick rebound.  The Houston Home Journal
  • Photos from Week 12 Friday night football in Houston County show players in action — the collection highlights key moments of the game. Local fans can view the images to get a quick recap of the sporting event.  The Houston Home Journal
  • Warner Robins boys and girls cross country teams ran at the Region 1-4A sectionals in Jones County and both finished as runner-ups; senior Mario Diaz came in second in the boys' 5000 meter race and earned All-Region honors while Ariel Howard and Maya Olsen earned All-Region honors for the girls. The boys team will run in the state championship on Friday, Nov. 7th in Carrollton—showing a strong effort from the team.  The Houston Home Journal
