  • Nonprofits Aaliyah Cares and Daniella’s House of Hope are hosting a spaghetti food drive on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Faith Lutheran Church from noon to 3 p.m.—the event will give ready meals to community members facing SNAP uncertainties and income loss. Leaders said the drive is the first of a series of partnerships planned through 2027.  The Houston Home Journal
  • In Macon, Umiya Mataji Temple collected 4,000 pounds of canned goods for the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank and pledged to match community donations as support builds for Thanksgiving. New Birth Missionary Baptist Church is preparing meal boxes and running a year-round food pantry to help families, including government workers in Warner Robins affected by a recent shutdown — a plan that continues a four-decade tradition.  13WMAZ
  • Central Georgians rallied on Thursday in Warner Robins for the Stuff the Truck food drive, donating food and cash to help families facing rising unemployment and the impact of a recent government shutdown — local volunteers and partners matched contributions to fill critical gaps.  13WMAZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Severe drought has spread over more of Middle Georgia, especially in the southern and western counties, because warmer weather and little rain have dried the soil— the Climate Prediction Center says the dry weather will last for the next month and may make it hard for farmers to water crops while raising fire risks.  WGXA

  • Houston County basketball coaches are giving more court time to young players this season as they shift from relying mainly on upperclassmen. The programs are trusting emerging stars to add depth and energy—helping to build a stronger team for the future.  The Houston Home Journal
  • Today, the GIAA state championships begin at Five Star Stadium as the Stratford Eagles prepare to close out the contest Saturday night in a rematch against Brookstone + the team still feels the impact of a season-ending injury to star running back Tyler Stephens last fall.
