COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army’s angel tree program helps more than 11,000 children across Warner Robins, Macon, and Milledgeville get Christmas gifts as families in need complete an interview process—local donors use angel tags with each child’s name, age, wish list, and sizes to pick out the right presents. Blevins said the program meets growing demands amid recent financial struggles and has achieved a 95% adoption rate for the angel tags.  WGXA
  • Warner Robins will hold its annual Christmas parade on December 6 with local groups, marching bands, and floats while businesses like Discount Costumes offer holiday deals. Officials said Watson Boulevard will close from Davis Drive to Corder Road at 9:30 a.m. and Davis Drive will close from MLK Boulevard to Watson Boulevard at 9 a.m.—residents should plan ahead to enjoy additional festivities like the Winter Bazaar and tree-lighting ceremony at Perkins Field on December 4.  13WMAZ
  • Southern Santa of Houston County gave away 75 turkeys for families in need before Thanksgiving and has been driving fire trucks through the county to deliver help. The nonprofit now expects a rise in assistance applications before the December 5 deadline—volunteers led by firefighters are ready to support more local families.  The Houston Home Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Houston County NAACP said city officials in Perry banned a high school group organizer from using city spaces after a tailgate event on Nov 1 because of alleged racial discrimination — he said the decision was unfair since all rules were followed. City leaders met with the group on Nov 24, reversed the ban, and said they resolved all issues.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Six-year-old Delaney Dykes beat a rare brain tumor in Houston County — she underwent two brain surgeries, two eye surgeries and 13 months of chemotherapy with help from community donations via the Mary Elizabeth Golf Tournament. Her family said the community support made a challenging treatment journey possible.  13WMAZ
