  • Re-New Thrift Store in Perry celebrates its 10th anniversary by turning donations into essential aid for Houston County families. The nonprofit uses all profits to support emergency needs, including food pantries and low-cost items available on Macon Road from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday — Saturday.  13WMAZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Drought continues to impact Middle Georgia, including areas around Warner Robins, as low rainfall threatens crops, streamflows, and soil moisture. Experts say the region will need at least 4 to 8 inches of steady rain — spread over several weeks — for relief.  WGXA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Warner Robins warned residents after two alligator sightings were reported at Walker’s Pond on March 5 and has posted warning signs, advising caution near the water’s edge (the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was notified).  WGXA
  • The Emergency Management Agency is updating its Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan and invites local input to identify hazards and improve readiness — the next public meeting is set for Monday, Mar. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Commission Chambers at City Hall.  WGXA

  • Houston County Bears dropped their Elite Eight contest to Woodward Academy after a 28-3 first quarter led to an 80-48 final, ending a season-best run with a regional championship and record 23 wins in the MaxPreps era — Coach Buddy Bivins praised his team for their perseverance despite the loss.  The Houston Home Journal
