If you're a Fort Valley State fan, circle Saturday. The Wildcats face Albany State's Golden Rams in the 36th Fountain City Classic in Columbus, with kickoff at 2 p.m. ET. Albany State has dominated the rivalry over the past two decades, and Fort Valley State has won just four times in that span.

  • Chairman: Calvin Smyre
  • Talks about a Columbus site began in 1989
  • Mission: networking, scholarships and career help for high schoolers

Fort Valley State head coach Marlon Watson says the rivalry's intensity doesn't depend on records. "They can be 9-0 and we can be 0-9 and vice versa, but when that whistle blows for that first play, it does not matter," Watson said. Smyre talked it over with WRBL and called it "not just a game but a great gathering."

The Wrap

Middle Georgia has its first women's hockey team, and it skates for Wesleyan College. The Wolves are in their inaugural season, with a 13-player roster from Canada, Montana, Colorado, Florida and Utah. Freshman center Jordan Clark, from Manitoba, leads the team with 11 goals. Not bad for a first year on the ice.
