If you want to honor veterans this weekend, the free Veterans Day Parade runs 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, in downtown Macon. Mayors from Macon, Warner Robins, Fort Valley, Byron and Perry will take part, along with a city councilman from Centerville, who will be accompanied by a local veteran.
We suggest arriving early: a C-130 flyover from Robins Air Force Base is set for 3 p.m. Downtown is also warming up for the holidays. The Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza could top last year's crowd now that USA Today has included it in a public holiday light display contest with online voting.
- Route: Cherry, First and Mulberry streets, ending at MLK Jr. Blvd.
- Floats: Amazon, Warner Robins Air Force Base, Middle Georgia Honor Flight
- Light show opening: free Macon Pops concert at First and Poplar streets
